When you get comfortable, change is inevitable. After almost ten years in community corrections, I lost my job. In trying to figure out what was next, I was reminded of how I constantly would encourag my clients to make a career out of what they enjoyed doing.

Being forced out made me realize I wasn't living my own life, so I reinvented myself by enrolling in culinary school and discovering a talent I never knew I had. No longer wanting to operate at the mercy of another employer, my pressing goal became owning my own business. KHEMistry Catering started as a “side hustle” where I offered sweets, catered meals, and custom cakes. After four years of trying to juggle my business and a full-time food service job, a choice had to be made; my dreams or someone else’s. And on December 4, 2020, I finally decided to leave my food service job and never look back!
